Description
Tinsmith's Cottage
Tinsmiths is a 1765 detached cottage which offers a relaxing and tranquil holiday setting away from the hustle and bustle of city life. The cottage accommodates 2-6 people and discounts are available for couples when peak period prices are showing. Steeped in history and in the conservation area of Derbyshire, this beautiful cottage was once a local lead miner's home. It housed two families upstairs with animals downstairs and has been refurbished to a high standard without spoiling it's immense charm and character. This cottage was featured in a BBC production of George Elliot's famous Silas Marny story.
A fully equipped modern kitchen leads through to an open plan dining room which seats 6 comfortably and boasts antique French imported pine furniture.
The upstairs is both spacious and characterful with two sumptuous sofas with windows overlooking the historic sough known locally as the bear pit. (see website for Sir Richard Arkwright).
The two bedrooms sleep up to 6. The spacious family room houses pine twin bunks and matching twin beds with tapestry divide for further privacy. An antique satin bedroom suite and 4 beautiful sunlit windows make this room a joy. Bedroom 2 offers 2 sunlit windows, floral cottage decor and a double pine bed.
Tinsmiths Cottage boasts modern appliances and includes microwave, electric cooker, fridge, washing machine, CD player, Video, etc and all crockery and linen are provided free of charge. Outside there is a small courtyard with shrubs, a bistro table, 2 chairs and room for a barbecue.
This quaint village is linked to Sir Richard Arkwright who built most of its cottages and mills and made his name here. His once planned to be home Willersly Castle overlooks the glorious countryside surrounding Cromford and yet sadly he never actually lived there.
Tinsmiths overlooks the sough known locally as "the bear pit" which pre dates Arkwright times to the roman era and the area is historically remembered for its Tin mines. It is rare to find a village that is as quaint and boasts so much history yet still retains Butchers, Bakers, Chip-shop, Newsagent, Post Office and other small convenience stores as well as lots of good public houses and a small restaurant renowned for its excellent food. Take a stroll areound the millpond or browse in Scarthin bookstore just a few yards away for Tinsmiths. A little further down the road visit beautiful Cromford canal and mill.
Matlocks Famous illuminations begins end August through to October 31st.
Special occasion welcome packages are available e.g.: valentines, newlyweds etc at an extra charge, please enquire.
Weekend deals are available on request out of the main holiday periods. Visitors of Tinsmiths are respectively asked to smoke outside due to the fire policy insurance.
Prices range from £245 to £455 per week depending on season for a family of 2 - 4 and £295 to £495 families of 5/6. Please see terms and conditions.
