Mountain rescue teams in Derbyshire have warned people to be careful when walking and climbing after an increase in call outs over recent days.

Snow and freezing temperatures have made for hazardous conditions in the Peak District.

Kinder Mountain Rescue Team said it has responded to a record number of call outs in a single week.

Last week the team responded to 19 incidents compared a usual 30-40 call outs per year.

On Sunday evening Buxton, Edale and Kinder rescue teams, together with search dogs, were called out after two walkers got lost on Kinder Scout.

They were later found cold and wet but were uninjured.

On Saturday a 55-year-old woman was airlifted to hospital after she became unwell while walking with family and friends on the Lose Hill Ridge.

She was treated on site by mountain rescue team personnel before being flown to Chesterfield Royal Hospital.

A Buxton Mountain Rescue team spokesman said: "Currently we are experiencing difficult weather conditions, we recommend walkers to take heed of weather forecasts and make sure your equipment is in good working order.

"The conditions last night were very difficult, it was a white out with no visibility, drifting snow, deep in places and very cold with a severe wind chill".
