Description:
This
charming 300 year old limestone cottage is situated, alongside others
of its age, just off the village green in the unspoilt medieval village
of Castleton, dating back to Norman times and located in the heart of
the Peak District National Park.
Peveril Castle is immediately
behind the property keeping watch over the village as it looks out over
to Mam Tor, Back Tor ridge and Win Hill away in the distance.
Originally
a bakery, Oatcake Cottage with its exposed beams and trusses sleeps
four, with one double bedroom and one twin bedroom and there is a
bathroom with shower over. On the ground floor there is a beamed lounge
with original gritstone fire-place and 'coal effect' stove, with
TV/DVD/Video.
Off the lounge is the dining room with pay-phone
and the country kitchen with oven, hob, microwave, fridge/freezer,
washing machine/dryer and a traditional Belfast sink.
The
front of the cottage has had some beautiful, detailed restoration work
undertaken by a local stonemason which enhances the charm and period of
the cottage. This work is complimented by two 7 feet long, three hundred
year old, antique granite troughs which feature on the small forecourt.
'Oatcake' is one of the oldest cottages in Castleton, dated 1690.
Cosy,
low-ceilinged lounge with exposed beams and two Laura Ashley sofas -
lots of local information - and on the bookshelves you will find we have
most of the relevant tourist publications, books and novels in which
the Peak District is featured, plus videos and games for your
entertainment. The pictures in both the lounge and the dining room
represent many local scenes - past and present.
A delightful, well equipped country kitchen with Belfast sink, in-keeping with the cottage's character.
Country style bathroom, wood panelled and tiled, with all-season towel rail providing constant warmth.
Very
attractive bedrooms with pine furniture, made by local craftsmen. Both
bedrooms have exposed beams and an original oak King Truss.
