The brand new Evofit
photo-fit system that was piloted by police in Derbyshire and the Peak
District has been used to such acclaim that it will be launched with
other forces across the UK. Evofit instantly merges and changes facial
features and characteristics on a screen to create a more lifelike
image. It was trialled for
three months in the area and has been used by police to help victims
such as young children and people with learning difficulties to
identify suspects with ease. One
out of every three e-fits produced have resulted in a positive outcome,
such as securing a positive identification that may lead to a line-up.

Constabulary's principal forensic services officer said "In the past, officers have had to rely on a detailed description
of a suspect to allow forensic specialists to generate a computer image
from the information provided. During
the past three months, we've been trialling the new system. We have
found that the finished images are very impressive and lifelike and the
response from investigating officers is very positive. We
have taken on a new member of staff because we are required to visit
more witnesses and victims than we have done before and that is down to
the success of the system. Any tool that can be used to help identify
suspects is useful." |
