An exciting even has een arranged for anyone with an interest in local history or archeology with the first historical dig on the High Peak Trail being launched this weekend. Taking part over the 1st and 2nd of November, Middleton Top Visitor Centre is hosting the event in conjunction with experts from Sheffield University's expert archeologists.
Investigating the grounds of the Sheep Pasture incline, the remains of the old engine house, that was made redundant in the 1850s, will be explored and hopefully additional information about the activites that took place in the area. County
environmental services chief Cllr Brian Lucas said: "This is an
exciting opportunity for people to come along and get involved in
unearthing some local history."
Running from 10.30am to 3pm, the dig will cost £5 per day and it is open to anyone over 16. Booking is highly recommended for what is thought to be a very popular activity.
Participants are asked to wear suitable clothing and footwear, preferably steel toe-capped boots or wellies. Refreshments will not be provided, therefore it is advisable to bring your own food and drink. |
