A unique exhibition is due to be held in the Peak District that will honour the contribution made by
Britain's ethnic minorities to the armed forces over the past 50 years. The unique celebration will be entitled "Past, Present and Future".
It
will feature two exhibitions, "We were there", compiled by the Ministry
of Defence, and" From Jawan (Private) to General", compiled by the
Anglo-Sikh Heritage Society. The
event will be manned by serving soldiers from all communities. It will not only look back at the
achievements of ethnic minority groups in the British Military over the
past two centuries but also showcase opportunities available to those
interested in joining the Army today.
Lieutenant
Colonel David Hollas, Commander Regional Recruiting, said "There has
been widespread acknowledgement of the 90th anniversary of Armistice
Day and we are running these Past, Present and Future events to pay
tribute to the role played by Britain's ethnic minorities. We are trying to raise awareness
amongst Asian communities in particular in order to improve the numbers
of soldiers from these communities serving in the British Army."
